You might well think that Panama hats are made in Panama but actually, they are made in Ecuador.
We are honoured with these two sisters’ visit to Chesham as part of a two week mission from Ecuador*, and their willingness to share their culture by demonstrating the straw platting techniques used to make Panama hats. With their help and guidance you will be able to make your own little hat, using authentic straw, which M A & M A will bring with them all the way from Ecuador. All equipment and materials will be provided.
This session is COMPLIMENTARY but you still need to book online to secure a place.
* A two week Mission with visitors from Ecuador will be taking place in the Chilterns Pastoral Area in June, organised by the parishes of St Columba’s church in Chesham and Immaculate Heart of Mary’s church in Great Missenden under the leadership of Fr Alessandro Reno, their parish priest.
This is a cultural exchange between Ecuador & UK and an opportunity for personal growth and community building, based on shared Christian faith.
This Mission is a follow up to last summer’s exchange in which a group of 31 parishioners went to Ecuador, as guests of La Dolorosa parish in Manta, to teach English, take care of the sick in hospitals, look after school children in an orphanage, and build 2 bamboo houses for 2 homeless families.
This June, 24 Ecuadorian missionaries coming to Buckinghamshire will be involved in community projects such as volunteering in local schools and local churches, learning about our culture and sharing their culture and their faith.
