The Nyamotiro Self Help Training College is registered with the Kenyan Government and is based in Kisii, which is in south-western Kenya, in the Gusi Highlands.
Workaid supplied the school with tools and equipment earlier in 2016 and these were shipped in our container called “Wimslow”. The shipment for the college consisted of 37 boxes which contained a number of carpentry, metalworking, vehicle mechanic, masonry and leather working kits, together with six sewing machines and four knitting machines.
This mix of equipment is a good example of the support Workaid provides to vocational training projects. Many of the graduates to date are working for themselves and helping poorer members of the community to build their own homes.
By providing the college with this equipment, Workaid has been able to help it increase its intake to 200 trainers, which means more people can become qualified in their chosen trade. This in turn means they can become self-sufficient and productive members of their community, thus adding to economic growth in the area.
