New Workshop for the Zambia Association for Children with Disabilities (ZACA).

Established in 2008, ZACD is an NGO that answers to the needs of children with disabilities such as cerebral palsy, clubfoot and spinal bifida in Lusaka, Zambia. Unsure of a solution and the availability of help within the community, parents would hide their children away from community life. ZACD’s main objective is to therefore provide these children with the means to mobilise within the community, by designing and producing mobility aids.

The NGO operates within the Beit Cure Hospital in Lusaka. Previously, the NGO operated from home and was later invited to set up a space in the hospital, making use of a container as a workshop and office. Due to their success, it has become harder to find enough space in which to operate. Incoming donations of tools from Workaid means more space is needed. Whilst ZACD has endeavoured to raise funds for their projects on a local and international level, this has proved difficult.

Workaid has worked with the NGO for a number of years and has aided in the process of resource mobilisation. In partnership with Trade Kings Foundation, Beit Cure and Workaid, ZACD recently welcomed the construction of a brand new workshop, in time for the unpredictable rainy season that has proven detrimental at times to their work. With Workaid’s continued partnership with ZACD and the introduction of the new workshop space, it is hoped that the NGO will continue to prosper.
