The Workaid Shop

Have a look at what’s on offer

What we sell

We’re now delighted to announce that we will open for business once more on Thursday, 18th June with our usual opening hours of Thursday, Friday & Saturday from 10am to 4pm.

Make a note for your diary now – we’ve missed you!

  • Significant safety measures and physical distancing have all been thought through with direction arrows and social distance floor markings in-place following guidelines from the Charity Retail Association following the COVID-19 crisis
  • Hand sanitiser stations have been installed and a cough guard around the till. We offer contactless payment
  • Gloves and masks for volunteers, staff and customers are available so feel safe to visit
  • There will also be a strict policy on the number of customers in the shop and covered area at any time
  • We’ll advise on parking too as this will be temporarily suspended in front of the shop. Spaces will be limited and parking around Chesham in most car parks is free
  • We’ll also be putting in place new processes for receiving and handling donations and won’t be able to accept donations in the shop. Please see our new procedures on our Donate Tools page.

Like many charities, raising funds has been a particular challenge during these difficult times, so your support is very much appreciated.

We look forward to seeing you again very soon, until then stay safe and healthy.

It’s been a whirwind for our “charity shop with a difference” so far this year! Our newly refurbished shop re-opened its doors in February 2020 and the tape was officially cut by our Patron, Gary Grant of The Entertainer Toy Shop on 6th March. Shortly afterwards we had to close due to the COVID-19 crisis, just when things were going well and feedback on the expanded shop was excellent (thank you!).

The Workaid Shop is a “charity shop with a difference”, specialising in tools and hardware, gardening equipment, lawn mowers, electrical items, craft materials, patterns, wools and yarns, fabrics and general haberdashery, sewing and knitting machines.

Stock changes every week, depending on what’s surplus to requirement for our projects or more valuable to sell.

If you are looking for something specific, please give us a call and we’ll let you know what we have.

All the proceeds are used to support our work to provide sustainable, vocational support to enable disadvantaged people in East Africa and the UK to learn skills and change their lives.

Our Workaid Shop is located next to the Workaid workshop in Chesham, HP5 2AA. You can call us on 01494 775220 or email shop@workaid.org

Our opening hours are Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10am to 4pm. Please note these times are different from the workshops and office.

Each year WORKAID assists over 9000 disadvantaged people. Since 1986 we have been supplying refurbished tools and equipment to vocational training projects and self-help groups in the UK and East Africa. Giving people skills enables them to become self-supporting. They can earn a living, buy food and send their children to school. Through this the cycle of poverty is broken.

All the equipment we supply is donated to us by the public. Collected from all over the country by volunteers, it is brought back to our workshop in Chesham, to be refurbished by a team of dedicated volunteers. Any items which are surplus or unsuitable for sending overseas can be sold in the WORKAID SHOP to help fund our work.
