David – graduate of bulungu secondary school
David Kapaipi, age 20, graduated from Bulungu secondary school in late 2022. The school is one of 35 Workaid has helped in Zambia over the past three years in partnership with the Vwila Foundation. He completed his studies in design and technology with his best subjects being woodwork and metal fabrication.
After graduation, he decided to start his own furniture making business. He felt he could produce items of furniture to a much higher quality than other people in the area.
He works under a tree outside the small two-bedroom home he rents for his family. The quality and design of the furniture David makes is impressive, as pictured here.
Since his house is a distance from the main road, he faces the challenge of promoting his business. However, we are confident that word will spread quickly about his amazing work.
Earning enough income to rent his home and provide for his wife and young child is a significant accomplishment for him. David is an excellent example of how donations to Workaid enable young people through vocational training.
David’s advice to anyone graduating:
“Don’t wait for employment to come to you, employ yourself!”
