Fiona Lhukogho
Fiona, 23, graduated in tailoring at Bulhalho Foundation (BUF) in Uganda and was awarded a Department of Industrial Training (DIT) Diploma.
She rents a small room in the local village and received a haberdashery and a sewing machine kit from us. Now, she trains a student in tailoring and hopes to continue with others as her business grows.
BUF have given her small work contracts to make beekeeping suits and she sometimes has to subcontract these to other tailors to help with the workload.
Her ability to work to a high standard and deliver suits on time has helped her secure these contracts.

As a single mother of a five-year-old child, Fiona prioritises her savings to ensure she can send her child to a good school. Providing for her child with the money she earns from her practical skills is something she is extremely proud of.
Her next goal is to save enough money to buy an electric sewing machine which will enable her to do more complicated work. However, her long-term dream – as with many other graduates – is to build a small house for her family.
