Jesca Katusabe - Albert Valley
Meet Jesca Katusabe, aged 20 from Murambi Village in Ntoroko District. Despite facing challenges and dropping out of school during Senior 4, Jesca joined a tailoring class at Albert Valley Vocational Training Institute. She found it to be a practical choice and an effective way to earn an income.
After Jesca graduated from Albert Valley in 2023, she received a sewing machine from Workaid, which helped her start her own business. The sewing machine was like “a super important tool” that made it easier for her to earn money with her tailoring skills. It wasn’t just a machine to her, it was like a symbol of support that boosted her confidence and independence. Through Workaid, Jesca not only improved her life, but shows how practical assistance can have a real impact on individuals and communities.
Jesca’s income from tailoring enables her to provide for her 2-year-old, and she regularly saves. She has also trained two more people in tailoring empowering them to become self-sustaining.
To grow her tailoring business, Jesca is saving to purchase additional sewing machines, including a zig-zag machine. It’s her goal to make her workshop even better and help more people. By doing this, Jesca aims to bring more money to her community and improve everyone’s life. It’s her way of giving back and making things brighter.
