Urgent Appeal - Zambia
- 30th Jan 2025
What is happening?
Unfortunately, our partner in Zambia – the Vwila Foundation – has been given notice to vacate their office premises in Lusaka. The offices and the site where they are located is ideal as they can safely off-load the containers full of tools and equipment we send and then distribute them to the projects who come to collect them.
We have been urgently looking for a suitable alternative, but finding somewhere safe, secure and for a reasonable cost has been very challenging. However, Vwila has now found a small compound with an office and ample space to put containers.
We have been able to put a deposit down on the rental of the offices and compound, but we need to install wider gates and lay a short concrete drive. This will allow container lorries access and provide a solid level base for the containers to be put down.
The work in Lusaka will cost around £10,000 and we are seeking funding so that the work can go ahead as soon as possible. But, we are in a race against time. Container Peter 1996, which we sent in November, is well on its way and we want to get the new office and site up and running before the container arrives.
We want to support Vwila but we have not made financial provision in the short term for this remedial work.

Donations so far...
Donations that exceed the target will go towards funding our general projects in Zambia.
The following purposes will be served by your generous donations:
- Installation of a new gate, concrete driveway and base
- Ladies bathroom facilities; toilet and hand basin installation
- Solar system and installation

- Moving three containers and office equipment
- Construction of a 24-hour guard shelter

- 3rd March 2025
We are pleased to announce that Container Peter 1996 has arrived safely in Lusaka, Zambia. The container is scheduled to be opened and offloaded on Monday, 10th March 2025.
Update
Thank You – Your Support Has Made a Real Difference in Zambia
We’d like to express our heartfelt thanks for your generous donation to our Urgent Zambia Appeal earlier this year.
While the Vwila Foundation have been at the new site for some weeks now, we wanted to wait until all the work was completed before reporting back to everyone.

The Vwila team have moved to their newly developed location. Here are some photos of the work being carried out at the new premises.
They are now in an ideal location and can focus on their primary work of evaluating current projects and assessing potential new ones.
