Abel, 28, began working as a carpenter in 2018, learning the trade informally on the job. In 2025, he completed an intensive carpentry course at Kalwande Training Centre. He learnt advanced woodworking techniques, including creating complex joints as well as how to maintain the tools he uses. He now focuses on furniture production in Chato Town, Tanzania.
When Container Barry arrives with tools and equipment towards the summer of 2026, Abel plans to invest in several power tools using savings from his carpentry work. This investment will boost his production efficiency and help him expand his business.
Abel also hopes to mentor a few young trainees, passing on his skills and knowledge while working toward a personal goal: acquiring a small plot of land for his family.
