Handcrafted Garden Forks and Trowels
Tools From Tanzania
These beautiful garden trowels and forks are handcrafted by skilled Tanzanian artisans, including traditional blacksmiths like Upendo Smiths Group.
Each tool is forged to a high standard using recycled scrap steel and the handles are made from a strong and durable African hardwood that feels comfortable in the hand. Several artisan groups from the Lake Zone of Northern Tanzania collaborate on producing these tools, combining their skills and craftsmanship.
We commission these tools directly and pay the artisans a premium price. This helps support their businesses and enables them to provide education for their children.
Once the tool heads have been forged and handles have been turned, they are carefully packaged separately before being shipped to the UK.
Upon arrival at our Chesham workshop, our volunteers take great care in sanding each handle so that it fits securely and comfortably with its corresponding trowel or fork head, ensuring a strong and reliable finished tool.
The first tools came back in Adrian’s luggage after his recent trip to visit projects in Tanzania!
We’re excited to announce that these tools are now available to purchase from The Workaid Shop and our eBay store!
By purchasing one of these tools, you are directly supporting African artisans and their families, while also helping us to continue our work in Africa.
